Statement

My current work is an exploration of interior landscapes, abstract images of wildlife taking over structured geometric shapes. These painted paper collages are blurring the space between the given and the guessed. As a mother and teacher, I am curious about the dichotomy between the wild and the structured, the calm and chaotic and how to strike balance in my work. In the book Eccentric Spaces, Harbison says “gardens are built on the idea of contrast: one thing superimposed on another thing, art on wildness” - this idea is exciting to me- art on wildness. These collage pieces allow me to find ways to explore hard and soft edges overlapping.

I am curious about how quilts and interior spaces, overlapping plants and organic shapes speak to the idea of us coexisting, honoring and appreciating it all at once.
